FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DO I NEED A TICKET?

Yes. The Hobart Carols will be ticketed through the EVENTBRITE online ticketing system. To ensure patron comfort, tickets have been limited and the show is expected to be fully subscribed.


All tickets will be scanned at the gate. You can bring a printed ticket or show the electronic ticket on your smartphone. NO tickets will be available on the day and entry will only be provided for valid ticketholders.


I HAVE BOOKED MY TICKET AND I CAN'T FIND IT?

EVENTBRITE records your personal details to allow us to retrieve them and issue replacement tickets if lost.  Your email confirmation may have also gone into your email junk mail folder. Please check this prior to contacting us.


WHAT HAPPENS IF THE EVENT IS BOOKED OUT?

You are able to register on the waitlist for the event.  Should a ticket become available you will be sent a link via your nominated email to arrange to reserve tickets.


I’VE BOOKED A TICKET AND NOW I CAN’T COME

Ticket numbers to the event are limited.  If you have booked your ticket and are now unable to attend please contact us at carols@exitleft.com.au to arrange to release your seats to the waiting list.


HOW LONG IS THE SHOW?

We have a fantastic evening of entertainment planned for all ages. With plenty of time for families to arrive early with a picnic, watch the pre-show entertainment and enjoy a surprise visit from Santa just early enough for the little ones.

  • 5:00pm Gates open 
  • 5:30pm-7:30pm Pre-show entertainment (including performances from The ExitLeft Performance Academy and The Scallywags)
  • 8:00pm-10:00pm Carols by Candlelight  


WHERE CAN I SIT?

The Carols audience will be seated on the grass leading up the hill in front of the Garden’s Restaurant. Picnic blankets and low folding chairs only.  Patrons who choose to become a Community Sponsor of the event will be able to sit in either the VIP beanbag or chair seating in front of the stage.


WHAT IF I HAVE LIMITED MOBILITY?

There is a wheelchair accessible area set aside for patrons and their families who reserve wheelchair family tickets. To allow us to make sure we have enough accessible space prepared, please book the appropriate ticket type. 


For ease of access, patrons with a disability parking permit may use the Gardens bottom Carpark area next to the Highway for drop off. Please note, there is no parking in this area on the night.


Accessable toilets are provided on site.  Please see one of our ushers to guide you to their location.


WHAT IF I AM DEAF?

There is an area set aside for patrons and their families who reserve Deaf seating tickets. This will give Deaf patrons a sightline to the AUSLAN interpreter who will be signing this event. To allow us to make sure we have enough spaces prepared, please book the appropriate ticket type.


AM I ALLOWED TO BRING A CAMERA TO THE EVENT?

 Yes you can, we would love you to post to Facebook, Twitter, snapchat and Instagram. Share your memories with the hashtag #HobartCarols.


CAN I BRING A FOLDING CHAIR?

Picnic blankets are preferred and audience members are welcome to bring the ground-style, low backrest folding chairs.


WHERE DO I PUT MY PRAM, STROLLER OR WALKER?

There will be an allocated pram parking area for patrons with young children. If you would like your pram or stroller with you it must be completely folded away to ensure stage visibility for all patrons.  


Patrons with walking frames should arrange for these to be stored in the pram parking area as well.


WHAT SHOULDN'T I BRING?

  • High backed or elevated chairs, beanbags or inflatable furniture
  • Large umbrellas
  • Sparklers / fireworks
  • Tents or marquees
  • Hard-sided hampers, coolers and eskies
  • Scooters, bikes or balls
  • Any item which may impede other people’s enjoyment of the show or deemed dangerous.


CAN MY KIDS CLIMB THE TREES?

No. To preserve the beauty of the Botanical Gardens parents are asked to ensure that children are supervised and do not climb the trees.


I HAVE A PET THAT I WOULD LIKE TO BRING TO THE EVENT, WILL HE/SHE BE ALLOWED?

Only Guide/Assistance dogs may enter the grounds.


WILL THERE BE PARKING?

The Regatta Grounds has been designated as parking for this event.  It is a simple one and a half km walk from these grounds to the Gardens (or an estimated 20mins).  Patrons must walk under the underpass and along the lower domain road footpath.  Police have advised that no patrons should cross the highway.


Limited parking is available along the road to the Gardens top entrance. There will be no parking at the bottom entrance as it is a drop off point only for park and ride buses.


CAN I CATCH A BUS?

A regular Sunday timetable will operate, meaning Metro services will have ceased by the end of the Carols.  Patrons using Metro to travel to the event are advised to make alternate arrangements after the event has concluded.  Please note that standard fares will apply.  


WILL THERE BE A PARK AND RIDE SERVICE?

You can reach the botanical gardens from the city by using the free shuttle bus service from either the Argyle Street car park or the Regatta Grounds.  Parking at the Regatta Grounds is free and standard parking fees apply at the Argyle Street car park.


WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS A BIT YUCKY?

As with all theatre events, the show must go on! The event will continue rain, hail, snow or sunshine. If the conditions were deemed dangerous we may move the event to an indoor venue.  


We encourage all patrons to like the @ExitleftProductions Facebook page to be kept up-to-date. 


CAN I BRING FOOD AND DRINK WITH ME TO THE EVENT? 

Yes! As this is an evening for family and friends we encourage you to come early with a Christmas picnic! As this is an all ages family event you must drink responsibly. 


This event proudly supports the City of Hobart Waste Management Strategy 2015-2030 to achieve zero waste to landfill by 2030.  We ask that patrons collect all their rubbish at the end of the night and take home or use the appropriate recycling bins provided.


WILL THERE BE FOOD AND DRINKS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE? 

Yes! There will be food vans providing simple hot food, coffee vans and ice cream.

Alcohol will not be available for purchase.


CAN I SMOKE AT THE EVENT? 

No. Under the Public Health Act 1997, Carols By Candlelight is designated as a Smoke Free Event.


WILL THERE BE 'PASS OUTS' AT THE EVENT?

Yes, Your Habitat seating area wristbands will be presented to all patrons when they arrive.


WHERE DO I GO IF A CHILD IS LOST?

Lost children will be directed to the St John’s Ambulance Station. If you have any questions or need directions, please see one of our ushering team.


WILL THERE BE ATMS ON SITE?

There are no ATMS on site. We cannot guarantee that any food vendors will have card facilities, please bring cash.
